ETERNAL LONGING

The screening will also include a discussion with Marek Holeček.

Following the screening of Eternal Desire, audiences will also have the opportunity to see ONDROVA HVĚZDA, MÁROVO PEKLO, which captures the extraordinary but tragically marked first ascent by Czech mountaineer Marek Holeček and Slovak climber Ondrej Húserka. In late October 2024, they made an alpine-style first ascent of the previously unclimbed east face of Nepal’s Langtang Lirung (7,227 m). After successfully reaching the summit, however, tragedy struck during the descent when Ondrej Húserka suffered a fatal fall into a glacial crevasse, where, despite every effort to save him, he lost his life.

OVERVIEW

A film poem centered on world-renowned mountaineer Marek Holeček, an intimate reflection on the pull of the vertical world, the search for freedom, and the unending determination to push beyond one's limits.

Eternal Longing follows Marek Holeček on an expedition in the Central Himalaya while returning to the defining moment of his childhood, when he first overcame fear and discovered the path that would shape his life. Interweaving the present with memories, the film becomes a visual meditation on courage, the desire to transcend oneself, and the magnetic allure of the mountains.
