FESTIVAL

SPORTFILM is an international film festival of sports films with cultural and sports events, part of the world finals of the World FICTS Challenge in Milan, guarantor of the International Olympic Games.

Festival Liberec as a city of sports offers attractive locations, 50 film screenings, exhibitions, talks, lectures, workshops, art studios, a conference on the topic of Mental Health, a gala evening broadcast by ČT, where the winning films in five categories will be awarded, a Grand Prix and a Prize will also be awarded directors. Around 400 films from 70 countries compete regularly.

The goal of the festival is to present the highest quality films as a motivational and educational tool, to emphasize the importance of this work and to support it. Films must respect universal values linking mental and physical development, sport and society.

The growing interest in mental health attracts a wider public, not just sports. The images deal with discrimination, self-harm, anxiety, etc. in connection with sport. These pictures are also important as an educational component for schools.

History of the festival

The history of the festival dates back to 1997, when Pavel Landa, Jiří Kössl and Jiří Kratochvíl initiated Sportfilm. Modern history is then being written from 2020, when the festival's reputation rises and at the same time Czech films are regularly awarded at the FICTS global final of sports films in Milan.
